The Comte du Soufflé, a royal advisor, has taken notice of a recent trespasser in the king’s woods. The hunter Gaston, arrested alongside his companion LeFou after a failed pursuit, now finds his sentence commuted. The Comte presents a single, perilous alternative to the royal lock-up. Gaston’s reputation for brute confidence and unshakeable pride has marked him as the only candidate for a task others would refuse. The specifics of the mission are known only within the palace walls, but its danger is absolute. The stone corridors of the dungeon feel suddenly preferable to the unknown assignment awaiting him beyond the castle gates.
