Dave Hill has built a respectable life in the New York comedy scene, a world where failure is part of the act. The humiliation of his teenage metal band is a distant memory. That changes when he discovers the theatrical severity of Norwegian black metal. As a joke, he invents Witch Taint, a band so absurdly extreme its legend spreads online. The fiction takes on a life of its own, crossing the Atlantic. Now, the very black metal butchers whose aesthetic he mocked are arriving in New York. Their interpretation of revenge is not metaphorical. The air in the comedy clubs smells different now—like ozone and cheap leather.
